What does it take to wake you up America?
I don’t mean coffee or alarm clocks. I mean the firing of Andrew McCabe the day before he would become eligible to collect his pension. Did he deserve to be fired? I do not know. What I do know is that it was morally wrong to fire him the day before his pension was due to vest.
That intentional timing of his dismissal denied McCabe the retirement pension he had earned for his years of service to our government. 
Pensions, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid have transformed this nation by providing for the sick, the disabled and the aging segments of our population. We have not become a caring nation by bullying our people but by the enactment of laws that give us dignity and hope.
We cannot overestimate the importance of these programs nor do we dare underestimate the importance of speaking out against every attempt of Congress and the White House to eliminate these financial safeguards one by one.
This isn’t just about money. It is about money, and power, and fairness, and your future and mine, and our children’s future, and our grandchildren’s future. The attempts to eliminate or drastically reduce these programs are blatant attempts to rob from those who need it most to line the pockets of those who need it least.
Elie Wiesel, the Romanian born, Jewish-American writer, Auschwitz survivor and Nobel Laurette advised us all saying, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.”
The time to protest is now. Not next week, not next month, not next year: Now.
