Photo Album: 2024 Deep South Investors Tour

Our 2024 Deep South Investors Tour took the group through a rich experience of history, civil rights, and local efforts to address wealth inequity in the United States. In September, our group traveled from Memphis, Tenn., through parts of Alabama and Mississippi while meeting with community leaders and executives at Hope Credit Union.

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Montgomery, Ala.
Pausing on our walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of Bloody Sunday during the 1965 Civil Rights March in Selma, Ala.
In Selma, we also met with Lynda Blackmon Lowery, pictured at left in the front row. Ms. Lowery was the the youngest person to take part in the Selma to Montgomery March and is the author of Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom.
We took a tour of Rickwood Field, a tribute to the Negro Leagues, led by park director Gerald Watkins in Birmingham, Ala.
In Memphis, our Hope Credit Union hosts showed us around Crosstown Concourse, a “vertical urban village” that is home to a Hope Credit Union branch, restaurants, a brewery, art galleries and live entertainment venues.
Our tour group poses with local hosts at the welcome center in Moorhead, Mississippi.
Members of the group pause to reflect in front of the Lorraine Motel at the National Civil Rights Museum, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated in 1968.
We gathered on the basketball court at Grove Hero Park in Memphis, built in partnership with Hope Credit Union and local comedian Mario Bradley, who performs as Grove Hero. Bradley is buying houses, renovating them, and giving and selling them to the people in the neighborhood.
In Drew, Mississippi, with Gloria Dickerson (back row, third from left), daughter of activist Mae Bertha Carter and founder of the nonprofit We2Gether.
In Sumner, Mississippi, we visited the courthouse where Emmett Till’s murderers were acquitted.

What our listeners are saying:

"The Faith and Money Podcast is so inspirational and practical that it will make you want to delve into your money concerns. Through the interviews with an amazing array of people, Mike leads us into an understanding of our money that begins with the numbers and moves on to the soul. A must-listen to for anyone struggling with any aspect of money management – having too little or too much.” –listener from Washington, DC

“I just listened to your most recent episode and found myself weeping. It touched something deep in me.” –pastor and listener from Seattle, WA

“I have listened to all your programs, and I am learning something new with each one. Many thanks for these thoughtful, informative shows.” –listener from Washington, DC

“It was a wonderful encouragement because Brian Higgins [from “Stewards of God’s Creation: Connecting Faith and Money] didn’t say a lot of things about the frightening environmental crisis but about creative things he is actually doing to lower his carbon footprint. He made it sound easy and enjoyable. Your questions were relaxed and thought-provoking and invited Brian into both broader and deeper ways to express his passion for the health of the earth. It was energizing!” –listener from Washington, DC

“I miss my weekly radio conversations/listening to Mike and guests!!” –listener from Boise, ID
