Photo Album: 2024 Red Shirt Table Trip of Perspective

In June 2024, Faith and Money Network visited the Red Shirt Table community on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. The group of 11 learned from local leaders, activists and artists, and ended the trip by attending the Red Shirt Pow Wow.

The trip also took the group to sacred sites in the area, including Bear Butte, Wounded Knee, Wind Cave, and the Crazy Horse Memorial.

Bear Butte, a sacred site for the Lakota people, so named because it looks like a sleeping bear. (See the ear on the smaller right peak?)
Faith and Money Network executive director Mike Little hikes the ridge along Bear Butte.
Robert Two Bulls and his sister Twila Two Bulls show the group around their new coffee house, which is set to open in September 2024. The cafe is called Pejuta Sapa, or “black medicine,” as coffee is known in the Lakota language. The community hopes to start a business park with opportunities for work and services so that people will not have to travel 30+ miles to meet their daily needs.
Renowned Lakota storyteller Tony Tenfingers speaks to members of the group. Tony is a cultural ambassador and accomplished educator who brings the wisdom of the people to all he touches in the form of the original teachings the Lakota were given.
The group toured the Wounded Knee massacre site, led by Rev. Harold Eagle Bull, pastor of Episcopal Church of the Messiah. Eagle Bull guided the group through the mass grave site where more than 300 Natives, mostly women and children, were killed by soldiers in the U.S. Army on Dec 29th, 1890.
The group poses for a photo with local guides and leaders.

"The Faith and Money Podcast is so inspirational and practical that it will make you want to delve into your money concerns. Through the interviews with an amazing array of people, Mike leads us into an understanding of our money that begins with the numbers and moves on to the soul. A must-listen to for anyone struggling with any aspect of money management – having too little or too much.” –listener from Washington, DC

“I just listened to your most recent episode and found myself weeping. It touched something deep in me.” –pastor and listener from Seattle, WA

“I have listened to all your programs, and I am learning something new with each one. Many thanks for these thoughtful, informative shows.” –listener from Washington, DC

“It was a wonderful encouragement because Brian Higgins [from “Stewards of God’s Creation: Connecting Faith and Money] didn’t say a lot of things about the frightening environmental crisis but about creative things he is actually doing to lower his carbon footprint. He made it sound easy and enjoyable. Your questions were relaxed and thought-provoking and invited Brian into both broader and deeper ways to express his passion for the health of the earth. It was energizing!” –listener from Washington, DC

“I miss my weekly radio conversations/listening to Mike and guests!!” –listener from Boise, ID
